The transition between the real world and that of fantasy begins by
descending the wrought iron spiral staircase, which leads from the edge of
Curtain Road to the discreet entrance of 'ninetyeight'.
Here a kaleidoscope of playful decorations and fantastical furniture awaits, from a lampshade made entirely out of balloons to pineapples that have been painted pink.
We sat amongst the plants of the light-flooded atrium at a baby grand piano
that was littered with candles, an eclectic collection of vases and a book that had been reincarnated as a plant pot.
Behind the bar, giant perfume bottles hold spirits infused with weird and wonderful flavours, which pay homage to the inventive mixologists.
The menu reads like a whimsical storybook and like obedient little Alice in Wonderlands we happily drunk the potions that were put in front of us...
along with a bowl of popcorn,
or was that three?
