Easter Soda Bread

ALERT ALERT ALERT
IT'S EASTER BAKING TIME
and in the Strawberry Sister household easter baking doesn't include
cakes or chocolate or eggs (SAY WHAT?!)
cos it's bread yo
and not just any kind of bread - one specifically for all you yeast-hating folks...
soda bread!

and all you'll need is:
170g wholemeal flour
170g plain flour
½ tsp salt
½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
290ml buttermilk
(maybe a lil drop of milk if needed)

IT'S THAT SIMPLE

IMG_6936

up first, turn the oven to 200 Celsius

IMG_6945

weigh out the wholemeal flour

IMG_6948

next, weigh out the plain flour
you HAVE to do it in that order
COS WE SAY SO!
okay okay we'll let you do it the other way round - but only cos you asked so nicely

IMG_6951

pour the two flours into a bowl

IMG_6956

then scoop in the bicarbonate of soda and salt

IMG_6964

IMG_6971

now comes the medium-ly difficult part

IMG_6976

make a little cheeky well in the mixture

IMG_6986

and fill it with gooey oozy buttermilk

IMG_6988

p.s. if the mixture's a little too dry, pour in a few smidges of milk too

IMG_6996

then get those hands in there!
(thanks mama strawb for being our hand model)

IMG_7001

once you've squidged the dough enough it's time to plop it on the side

IMG_7007

shape the dough into a cute little circle and give it a nice little pat down

IMG_7010

and final step - cut a cross into the top

IMG_7017

OVEN TIME
30 mins later and
boom
your dough has got a nice little tan!

IMG_7075

And it doesn't taste half bad either!!!!!
so now rather than popping to the shops for a lil loaf, just whip one up yourself
bake off eat your heart out!
